Seeing a Chiropractor when I Am Pregnant

September 15th, 2016

When I became pregnant with my first child, I was really excited at first. I was looking forward to going through the pregnancy, all the way up to the point where it became uncomfortable. I had no idea that there was going to be pain before the actual labor, and that was still months away. I had no idea how I was going to handle the pain, knowing that it was just going to become more and more uncomfortable as the months progressed. My mom told me to go and see a chiropractor in Chicago, which made absolutely no sense to me.

I knew that she went to one, but I also knew she had back issues. Sure, my back was hurting, but it was the pregnancy causing it, not an accident like she had years ago. She told me to go see her chiropractor and then she would hush about it if I was not happy, so I decided I had nothing to lose. The first thing I asked the chiropractor was if it was safe for me to be there. I did not want to do anything that would harm my baby, so I was very happy to hear that it was perfectly safe for pregnant women to see chiropractors.

My next question was what could be done for me. The chiropractor was very patient in explaining to me just how much a woman’s body changes when she becomes pregnant. Most people just see it as the belly area getting bigger and hormones getting a bit out of whack. Pregnancy also changes a woman’s musculoskeletal system though, and that is where a lot of the pain comes in. This chiropractor was able to schedule me for manipulations and adjustments, and they helped more than I ever would have thought possible. I have seen her for my other two pregnancies as well!
