A study by Strategy Analysts has shown that the iPad has lost some substantial market share due to the entry of the Kindle Fire to the tablet market where competition is now heating up. Apple controlled 58% of the market by quarter four of 2011, a 10% drop from 2010 when Apple’s market share stood at 68%. The reduction is attributed to the introduction of the Kindle Fire which hit the market in the very fourth quarter of 2011 and now there are projections that Apple’s market share may continue dwindling going into the future. But some analysts have pointed out that these two tablet devices have different consumer targets altogether considering their price difference (Kindle Fire is $300 cheaper than the entry level iPad 2). Given such a setting, the analysts observe that the drop in Apple’s market share could as well be as a result of a growing tablet market which then swallows the dominance of Apple.
